Particularly in the cultural climate that we live in, I feel this year, International Women’s Day takes on even more significance. I knew I wanted to write something today, but I struggled with what I could write that was heartfelt and wasn’t a cliché.
I started to think about why the notion of seeing women empowered has always been important to me. I trace it back to my childhood - seeing my mum, my grandma, my aunties - all incredibly inspiring women encourage me consistently to be the best version of myself.
So this is a post I’ve wanted to write for a while - partly as it’s something I feel like I wrestle with frequently.
At any given point in our lives, in one or various areas, there will always be a ‘waiting’ season we’re in. It could be waiting for a promotion, waiting to get a big idea we can turn into a business, waiting to meet a life partner, waiting for results, waiting for a health challenge of a loved one to pass and so on and so forth.
So recently I’ve had a big life change, which has afforded me the opportunity and time to work on more projects that I am really passionate about. While being in control of my own time has been rewarding in so many ways, I admit, I have found it a challenge to pause and pace myself.
Now before we begin, I think we need to make explain a few things about us that put Faaji Sunday's into context:
Firstly, Ruth LOVES food and any opportunity for a good meal cannot be dismissed in her book. Secondly, I LOVE a good party.
So it's no secret that we go to a lot of weddings! Since we started dating, we've gone to almost 15 and still have about 8 to go before ours.
The best things about any wedding we go to is the opportunity to celebrate our friends and the love between them. Secondly for Ayo is always the #turnup and for Ruth most definitely the food!
So if you follow us on social media, you might have seen at the weekend that we announced we’ve written a book! We wanted to firstly say a massive thank you - we’ve been so overwhelmed by all the encouragement and love we’ve received over the last few days.
It has been a secret we’ve had to keep for a while so we’re excited the news is now public. We recently sat down with a friend to talk about the journey, what we’ve learnt and how we hope people will be impacted by the book. Enjoy!
